Light years before political correctness--1983 to be exact--or his comeback in tame Disney comedies, Eddie Murphy was a charismatic, wonderfully offensive, egocentric 22-year-old black comedian known for crude celebrity impersonations and often shockingly frank diatribes on racial and sexual politics. Dressed in a skin-tight red leather suit and delivering endless streams of obscenities faster than Richard Pryor ever did, Murphy is captured in this raunchy HBO special (a filmed document of his Grammy-winning album, Eddie Murphy, Comedian) at his confident, swaggering, comedic peak--a posture that soon disappeared after a string of bland Hollywood comedies. Here, however, his energy and sheer virtuosity command complete control over the audience for 107 minutes, whether he's mocking personalities like Elvis, James Brown, and Stevie Wonder, or spinning long, gag-filled personal anecdotes about the ice-cream man or dysfunctional family barbecues. There's no apologizing for the immature stereotyping, blatant homophobia, and sexism (though Murphy did so several years later) that surface during the routine. But, then again, unlike his much nastier, one-sided concert film, Raw, no topic here is safe from Murphy's uproarious tongue-lashings--including the comedian himself. --Dave McCoy

5 out of 5 stars Eddie Murphy Delirious wanted Down Under   July 15, 2006
In this day and age where we have to think twice before we say anything that may offend one or another group of persons (which is not necessarily a bad thing), it is great to be able to escape within the privacy of your own home and watch such a funny but more imporantly naughty and so inappropriate movie. It is comedy without malice. This movie is so popular down under that it even gets stolen from video stores. This happens so often that such stores don't even bother to replace it. Not that I believe there is a conspiracy at hand but this may be a new cover up - DELIRIOUSGATE. Regards Down Under.

This by far has to be the best stand-up performance ever! It's just a shame that it hasn't been released to DVD after 23 years. What are you waiting for, a special "25th Anniversary" edition or something?!!? GIVE US WHAT WE WANT!

And for those who are asking about what the dude in the audience said that made Eddie drop his mike and laugh...Eddie was on stage talking about how hot he was on the stage (this is after the Texas racism bit); a woman shouted out something about "Take it off" and another guy tells her to "Shut Up *itch!"

I see these comedy concerts from this one to RAW which I think is lightyears funnier and I wonder, how did This eddie of these movies, become the Eddie in "Dr. Dolittle".
This is a must see for people who forgot that he could say things funny that didn't slip out of a CG Donkey. Give it a try.

I have been waitng for this video to come out on DVD ever since i first seen it. This is the funniest stand-up comedy movie of all time. Like the other person said it is 100000000.99
times better than RAW and RAW is pretty funny. If this DVD was released Iwould give it to every1 for Christmas, that's how good it is.
