Despite a typically haphazard plot, Highlander: Endgame is a marked improvement over previous sequels. This is the "torch-passing" chapter, in which the Immortal Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) passes his life force to his heroic brother, Duncan (Adrian Paul, star of the 1993-96 Highlander TV series). These appealing stars make a fine onscreen duo, and Paul is a terrific choice to keep the franchise alive--strikingly handsome but possessing enough gravitas to make the prospect of future sequels unexpectedly promising. The movie is incoherent to the uninitiated, but established fans will be reasonably impressed by Endgame's cagey mix of romance, swordplay, and history-spanning action. While the movie's chaotic construction is regrettable, the frequent battles (including dazzling work by Honk Kong action star Donnie Yen) are adequately impressive, and Douglas Milsome--cinematographer of Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket--ensures that every scene is strikingly photographed. All in all, Highlander: Endgame is surprisingly worthwhile. --Jeff Shannon

Oweh My Head Hurts... June 22, 2006

Endgame makes no sense whatsoever. If I could give it zero stars I would or better still negative stars. This makes no sense. Morons that claim this is a fitting sequel to the original forget that Connor wins the prize at the end of the first film so how can he, aged as he is, be facing Duncan? Who won the prize? Check for Christopher Lloyd and a DeLorean in the background somewhere, maybe this is a totally different timeline. That's the ONLY way this move could exist. Thank God, no more have been made. Adrian Paul is really just a milktoast version of the Highlander.
Its based on the series not on the previous movies May 13, 2006

The original Highlander was a cult classic. It was a fine movie that didn't need to have any sequels based on it. It did and the sequels did not make sense because it was based on a movie that already killed any possible chance for a sequel.
Now the TV series came and it was great. Not faithful to the movies but it didn't need to be. It even had episodes with Connor in it. Now Endgame I found very faithful to the television series. It had the watchers. It had the oldest immortal Methos and it had Connor. All of which was in the series. The title is misleading because there are clearly still immortals around. The action sequences were great and the story line was decent. It wasn't the best in the series but it definitely wasn't the worst. TV allows a person to have more character development. Movies don't have that freedom. I know the movie doesn't deserve 5 stars but it was definitely one of the best translations from television show to movie I have seen and it had great swordplay. It lacked the emotional intensity but very few movies can do in 2 hrs what a show can do in 9 one hour episodes.
Final thoughts compare to tv series don't compare to previous movies.
Pure garbage and lies upon lies May 9, 2006

This is my first review of anything. I found this movie to be an honest piece of garbage. Conner MacLeod appears to be totally different from the original movie. He is aloof, shadowy and distant. He won the prize. How the heck are they still fighting Immortals. Why couldn't the dummies who wrote this film had some sort of continuity with the 1st film?
They could have made a movie by placing it between events in the first film. Any true fans of these films must agree with me. I am not one to nitpick on minutiae (spelling??) but this is pure nonsense. Duncan kills Conner?!, c'mon what kind of bullcrap is that. I'm going to try to send this back and get my money back. Why didn't a review explain this blatant contradiction?

I intially bought Highlander : Endgame simply because it was Highlander. I'm a great fan of the series, however rocky the beginning two seasons are, and turned to the movies after I'd thoroughly tired the series out. The movies... Well, so far from what I've seen they're really not up to par. Engame had decent effects (which is an improvement from the series made in the 90's) and the acting wasn't noticably bad. The script however could have been far more engaging, Lambert had far to much time which was for the most part wasted. The entire storyline was rather empty. There was a minor plot-line involving watchers that was left hanging with no clear explanation. One thing however that was very well done was the casting for the villian, Jacob Kell, he was very concinving. Adrian Paul was Adrian Paul but he needed supporting help which he really didn't have from Lambert and the one female character. Peter Wingfield as Methos appeared for all five minutes he might have had screentime along with Joe Dawson. The scenes including them were the best in the movie, of course.
If those two actors had had much more of a storyline the movie would probably have reached four and half stars instead of three. That's how much Highlander depends upon those two characters. Connner MacLeod is a rather old subject by now and it was apparant that the writers were having trouble finding something new and intersting with him. All in all buy the series and spend your time watching them instead of Engame. For those of you who have already watched the series and are just looking for more Highlander material well then by all means go ahead and buy this movie. All in all when all is done and said it is still Highlander.
One of the worst sequels ever.... March 7, 2006

If there was a movie that you could give a negative rating to....this is one of them. The entire highlander francshise could have taken a different turn from the first movie - which is a cult classic and spectacularly done, but no.
Hollywood has to make money of it somehow. So we end up with trash. This movie has so many logic plot holes, and passing the torch from Lambert to Paul? Terrible idea. Since Paul is not really a worthy immortal. Lambert on the other hand, played Connor Mcleod with style and panash. Paul is just....boring. Lets hope they do not do another sequel.
