5 out of 5 stars Wow - Finally!   June 29, 2006

It's about time fox released this season! This is the one I've been waiting for since season one first came out on box-set DVDs.

Everyone else is probably listing every episode in the season. (As is the trend with Simpsons fans on Amazon) So, I'll just say that this season is WELL worth the money. In my own oppinion, it's the best season to buy, containing some of the best episodes ever produced.

Beware, however, season nine doesn't hold to the same standard... and it only goes downhill from there. The next season contains the poverbial shark the writers happily jumped in favor of celebrity cameos and wild story lines. (Yes, even in Simpsons standards.)

Simpsons Season Eight (Aired 1996-1997, DVD released 2006.)

INTRODUCTION:
There's no denying the sheer greatness of the Simpsons. When it comes to animated sitcoms, Matt Groening's magnum opus is king. The show has endured for nearly two decades, and with its own brand of humor and appeal, it isn't hard to see why. At long last, the eighth season of the series is on its way! Read on for my review.

OVERVIEW:
The eighth season of the Simpsons is slated for an August 15, 2006 release date. The box will feature the now usual choice of a collectable character-head box, this time of Maggie, or the standard style box. Once again, there will be numerious commentaries, deleted/extended scenes, interviews with cast and crew, and the like.

REVIEW:
These are, arguably, the greatest episodes the Simpsons has ever known. I've been waiting a long time for this season, and I'm glad to finally see it will be arriving on DVD soon. Matt Groening and company really outdid themselves on this season. Read on for the episode summaries.

-Treehouse of Horror VII - Bart discovers he has an evil twin, Lisa creates a microscopic world, and Kang and Kodos invade Earth during election time.

-A Milhouse Divided - Milhouse's parents divorce and go their separate ways.

-Lisa's Date With Destiny - Lisa ends up falling in love with someone extremely unlikely.

-Hurricane Neddy - A hurricane rips through Springfield. While the Simpsons are fortunate enough to endure the storm, the Flanders household isn't so lucky.

-El Viaje Mysterioso de Homer (The Mysterious Voyage of Homer)" - Homer attends a chili festival, and eating some extremely hot peppers drives him to insanity.

-The Springfield Files - On the way home from Moe's, Homer has an extraterrestrial encounter.

-The Twisted World of Marge Simpson - Jealous of her former investing partners, Marge starts a pretzel business.

-Mountain of Madness - A weekend power plant mountain retreat ends with Mr. Burns and Homer being trapped in a cabin buried by an avalanche.

-Simpsoncalifragilisticexpiala (Annoyed Grunt) cious - Stressed out Marge hires a nanny to help out around the house.

-The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show - Homer auditions for the opportunity to voice a new character on Itchy And Scratchy.

-Homer's Phobia - The family befriends an antique dealer, but Homer is turned off when he discovers his secret.

-Brother From Another Series - Sideshow Bob gets out of jail again, and moves in with his brother.

-My Sister, My Sitter - Lisa becomes a well-respected babysitter - and is asked to babysit Bart while the parents visit the waterfront shops.

-Homer vs. the Eighteenth Amendment - Old research in Springfield results in the reinstatement of an old alcohol prohibition law.

-Grade School Confidential - When Principal Skinner and Mrs. Krabappel fall in love, it is Bart who has to end up going out of his way to make their relationship work.

-The Canine Mutiny - Bart applies for a credit card - and gets it.

-The Old Man and Lisa - When Mr. Burns loses the power plant, Lisa reluctantly agrees to help him get it back.

-In Marge We Trust - Reverend Lovejoy is becoming more and more incompetent and unmotivated in his work, so Marge begins helping him out.

-Homer's Enemy - A new employee at the power plant is immediately turned off by Homer's lazy nature.

-The Simpsons Spin-Off Showcase - This episode features three short segments which feature the family members in various roles.

-The Secret War of Lisa Simpson - Bart is sentenced to military school as punishment for a crime - And Lisa, seeking a challenge, goes with him.

OVERALL:
What else can I say? This was a great season for a great series. If you're at all a fan of the Simpsons, you absolutely must buy this set. Don't hesitate - buy it on the day it comes out if you're a fan. This season is THAT good.

EDITION NOTES:
The DVD set is going to feature the choice of the collectable character head packaging, or the standard version. This seems to be a pretty normal feature pushed with the new releases. You can't go wrong either way, obviously.
